If you are going to be religious, then please do not pick bad apples. There are wormy apples in every religion. And if you are going to be religious please don’t go bananas. There are people in every religion who have a bad habit of going bananas. If you are going to be religious please remember to give a fig. In fact, go ahead and be a reckless giver-of-figs. Press dull purple pouches bursting with their own honeyed liqueur and unnumbered seeds into the hands of passersby. And oh, if you are going to be religious, please also be a cherry-picker. Lift your eyes to the laden boughs, and practice discernment. Don’t stuff yourself silly on low-hanging fruit. Reach. Climb. Choose. Brim your basket with that, and only that, which gleams red as a jewel, ripe as a secret. That which can fill with true flavor, your life, your heart, your pies, your philosophy, without harm to another. Please. Leave everything else on the trees. Let everything else fall to Earth. Let it softly rot where it too, can nourish something.
